Bluegrass fans may notice the inclusion of drums and piano on this album and may raise an eyebrow or two. This particular album was released in 1982 and is a reissue to showcase the early days of Claire's career. There were two producers on the album: Gene Elders who later worked with George Strait and John Starling who was a member of the Seldom Scene. The two produced contrasting songs, some with a country flavor with steel guitar, drums and piano and others with a more acoustic sound. The album was a springboard to fame for many of the participants. Claire went on to sing backup vocals on MCA records in Nashville, Patty Loveless recorded several of the songs, and Claire's songwriter friend, Kostas' song "Feelings of Love" gave him a inroad into the Nashville music scene . Carter Stanley's "I'll Never Grow Tired of You," "He Rode All The Way To Texas" by John Starling , and "Living In The Name of Love," have the most appeal to tradition and could easily be done again by Claire in her current band configuration. "Somebody Loves You", "Breakin' It", and "I Can't Get You Off My Mind" have a classic country sound and themes of lost and found love. Claire's song "Old By and By" is complete with drums, Fender Rhodes piano and electric guitar and a dancing beat. Through all the instrumentation, Claire's voice shines through and hints of her future success in a bluegrass context. The messages of love and joy in life come out in Claire's singing and true Claire Lynch fans would want the album for the wonderful music. |
